You fist the covers and pull it over your mouth, shivering. The cold is starting to seep through the blanket, and despite your body forming a ball, it’s still cold. You let out a huff of annoyance, and your eyes shoot open. Isabel is resting peacefully beside you, and Farlan has his back turned to her. The steady rise and fall of his shoulders tells you that he’s sleeping as well.

If only I could sleep insouciantly like them. You muse to yourself, turning so that you are facing away from them. You expect to see Levi’s back, but you are met with nothing but the rumpled sheets where he once slept. Gingerly, you roll onto your stomach and scan the area for any signs of the dark-haired male. He’s nowhere in sight, so, as carefully and as quietly as you can, you leave the safety of the blankets and trail outside.

You are met by the shine of the moon, and you pause for a moment to admire the beautiful, silvery orb. The longer you watch it, the more you forget what your objective is until a gentle breeze ruffles your [h/c] locks, and a low voice echoes from behind you. For a moment, you stiffen, but when the person speaks, you immediately relax. Although said person didn’t exactly like you, you knew they wouldn’t hurt you either.

“What are you doing out this late?”

“I couldn’t sleep,” you reply honestly, finally taking your eyes off the gleaming object. Levi’s lithe form is highlighted by the moonlight, and the soft glow that emanates from him is almost heavenly. “What about you? Why are you up?”

“None of your business.”

You expected as much, so all you do is nod, and turn your attention back to the moon. Footfalls alert you of his coming, but you don’t expect to feel his breath on your neck.

“You’re just like Isabel and Farlan. Whenever they can’t sleep, they look up at the moon. I wonder…why is that?” Levi questions. You stiffen but you do appreciate his perceptiveness. He just cares differently than the rest of us, You recall Isabel telling you on your way back. But once you get to know him, you’ll understand what I’m talking about. I promise. For now, the least you can do is offer him an answer.

“Watching the moon just makes me wonder when the ones I care about will come home,” you explain, seating yourself so that you can gaze up at the heavens. “You never know how long they could be gone, or if they’ll ever return. But whether they’re there or not, they’ll always be watching over us. No matter where they go, no matter how far away they are, they’ll always be there, under the same sky. Just like the moon.”

“Then who are you waiting for?”

His simple question catches you off guard, but he doesn’t acknowledge the shock registered on your features. Instead, he sits beside you, resting an arm on a pulled up knee. You note how his eyes are on the moon as he patiently waits for your answer.

“You.”

Once the word passes your lips, you suddenly jerk and your eyes snap open. You’re back in the blankets, with the sheets pulled over you. You blink in disbelief when you are met by the three standing figures of Isabel, Farlan, and Levi.

“Oh? You’re finally awake, [First],” Farlan breaks his conversation with the other two to grin at you. “Did you have a nice rest?”

“With you in the same bed, I highly doubt it,” Isabel smirks, and Farlan shoots her a look. “But seriously, you twist and turn a lot, [First]. Did you have a nightmare or something?”

“No. It’s just a bad habit I have,” you chuckle sheepishly, scratching the back of your head in mock embarrassment.

So it was just a dream then? you wonder, the smile falling off your face when you glance at Levi. He must have felt your gaze on him, because he too turns so that his eyes are fixed on your form. You quickly avert your gaze, cheeks flushing.

“You’re not sick, are you? Your face is getting red,” Isabel places a hand on your forehead, and quickly retracts it. “Scratch that, you’re burning up! That’s not good – we’ve got to get you medicine!”

“Wait, I’m not-”

“Will you be alright here by yourself?” she cuts you off, grabbing Levi and Farlan’s arms. “Come on! We’ll grab breakfast on the way too!”

She’s out before you can protest, and you’re suddenly left all alone. Sighing, you throw the sheet off you, pulling the blanket together so that you can fold it up.

“Hey, we’ve got company,” Farlan warns as the trio maneuver through the air. “There’s four people about fifty meters behind us.”

“How stubborn, that lot,” Isabel scoffs, but a smirk quickly plays across her face. “Isn’t what I just said so cool, Brother?”

“Don’t act like such an idiot, stupid,” Levi chastises, before looking forward. “Anyway, we can’t continue to invite them any closer to base. In her condition, I doubt [First] will be able to get away if they find her.”

“Levi…” Isabel and Farlan look up in surprise, but they can’t make out his expression. Still, a slight smile etches onto their features as they are renewed with vigor.

“Farlan.”

“Yeah!”

“Isabel.”

“Yep!”

“Let’s go!”

You look outside, shielding your eyes from the sun’s glare with a forearm.

What’s taking them so long? It’s nearing sunrise and they’re not back yet. I hope nothing bad happened to them… Your eyes widen when you watch the sun rise from where you are perched.

Levi lets out a low grunt when something rams into him, but he manages to keep his balance by using his forearm to push back the weight leaning against him. His other arm makes an entrance as he uses the weight against him to slam his assaulter into the cold pavement below.

Taking the opportunity, he makes to fly off using the 3DM, but just as the wires hoist him into the air, a glint catches his peripheral and he finds himself falling back down to earth when his wire are cut off from the hooks.

A second man lands behind the first man, and together, they corner Levi.

“Did you get him?” the first asks. The second looks at his partner and shakes his head. Levi takes the moment of distraction to knock the blade from his hands, but just as the pocketknife goes for the man’s jugular, the second man brings up his sword to prevent him from doing so.

“Stop! Take a good look around you!”

Levi’s eyes widen for a fraction of a second before he drops the blade and rests his arms at his side in a gesture of surrender. Isabel’s voice is heard from the side as she tries to get the officers to release her.

“Give up, Isabel. It’s no use,” Farlan sighs, and Levi’s bangs shadow his eyes as he is brought to his knees beside his two friends.

“Now…I’m going to ask you a few questions,” the taller male states, holding up two blades.

You bite back a scream as you watch one of the soldiers grab a fistful of Levi’s hair, slamming his head into the wet pavement. You’ve never seen such a murderous look on Levi’s face before as he glares at the other male who kneels beside him. His mouth is moving, but you can’t make out what he’s saying. Whatever it is, Levi doesn’t respond, so the man looks at his partner again, who nods.

“Wait!” Isabel shouts, before the man can slam Levi’s head down again. “We didn’t learn from anyone, so get off your high horse and let Big Brother go!”

Farlan inputs his own opinion as well, but since he’s not shouting like Isabel, you can’t hear him. However, you do deduce that they are asking about the 3DM and gradually edge closer to make out what they’re saying. You hear Farlan say something about ‘tasting sewer water,’ and the man appears satisfied with his answer. Turning to Levi again, you hear the man ask for his name.

You watch in horror as the man holding Levi by the hair shoves his face into the water, gagging him when he doesn’t respond. You can see Levi struggling for breath, and when the two that have Isabel and Farlan captive hold a blade to their throats, that’s all you can take.

Your stalking ceases, and you pounce at the soldiers, sweeping the girl off her feet, and using her bent over body to latch your legs around her partner’s throat. Twisting your body in a full 360, you catch him off guard and he’s sent sprawling to the ground. You grab their swords in each hand, turning their own blades against them.

The tall blonde moves towards you, but you press the blades closer, glaring at him.

“Move, and I’ll turn them into a beehive,” you threaten, drawing a prick of blood to show him that you’re serious. To your surprise, he remains unruffled and stone-faced.

“Go ahead,” is his response. A snarl rips from your throat.

“You think I won’t?”

“The fact that you question your own actions proves that you are incapable of committing such an atrocious act. If you’re serious, do it. I’m not letting your friend go, regardless of whose blood gets shed here today.”

You grit your teeth, as you watch a drop of blood fall from Levi’s neck.

“You’re a monster.”

“It’s your choice. It’s him or them. Take your pick.”

Your shoulders tense, but you toss the blades away. You allow your hair to fall over your eyes as the man’s subordinates get up, locking your wrists with the same cuffs that bind Isabel, Farlan, and Levi.

“Now then. Where were we…Levi?”
