You slowly retreat, your gaze steady as you watch the Titan approach. Its eyes are fixated on you, and the wide grin plastered on its face does more than just creep the hell out of you. Your eyes flicker to the crushed gas tank underneath its foot, and you smile bitterly. Your body tells you to just make a run for it, but your muscles are protesting from exerting too much pressure from the past couple of hours.

Damn 3DMG.

Not only did your gear run out of gas, but all of your blades were broken too. To top it off, you were exhausted and wounded. Fighting and running had taken its toll, and now that you were restricted to land movement, unarmed, you were basically done in.

Not a good scenario when you were in Titan territory. The place was crawling with them, and even if you did bolt, you were bound to find another.

And here I was, hoping to finish this damned mission so I could go back and enjoy another cup of tea with Levi…Looks like that’s not happening anytime soon. You chuckle despite the situation, forcing what little energy you had left to stand. Blood trickles down your forehead, and you can taste the metallic substance in your mouth. But that doesn’t mean I won’t go down without a fight. Come at me with everything you’ve got, you sick bastard.

As if it heard your thoughts, the Titan releases a loud roar and lunges. You reveal the slip of glass hidden in your sleeve and aim for its eye, and although your aim had been true, blinding it only infuriates it even more. In an unseeing rage, the mouth comes straight at you, and it is only your scrambling aside that keeps it from full on crashing into you. However, it does catch your gear, and the impact is enough to send you flying back into a tree. You let out a low grunt and cough up some blood, falling to your side.

Meanwhile, the Titan is still searching for you, and it will be a minute before it does.

No longer having the strength to move, you lay there, gritting your teeth.

You had done your best, and you know that’s how Levi would have wanted you to leave this world. No regrets. That alone gives you reassurance, and you no longer feel fear, even when the Titan’s eyes regenerate.

It spots you and with an angry bellow, its hand darts out to grab you.

You close your eyes, waiting for your end.

The sick squelching sound of flesh fills your ears, but you don’t feel pain. Your consciousness starts to slip away, and the last thing you hear before you leave this world is a call of your name.

Sunlight filters through your eyelids, and you begin to stir. Slowly, your eyes open and you are met with nothing but white.

Am I dead?

“You’re awake. That’s good,” a tired, familiar voice echoes. You start to turn, but a firm grip on your shoulders keeps you in place. “Don’t move. You’ll open up the wounds.”

“Le…vi?” your voice comes out raspier than you thought, and you have the sudden urge to find him. “Levi…”

“Don’t worry. He’ll be here soon,” the voice reassures, just as the sound of a door opens.

“She’s been asking for you, si-”

“Get out.”

“A-ah, yes sir…!”

The pressure on your shoulders disappears, and footsteps leaving and entering fills your ears. You can feel the presence of someone behind you, but because you’re restrained from moving, you can’t see them. You have a fairly good idea of who it is though.

“Hey Levi.”

“Tch, you suffer a near-death experience, and you greet me with a half-assed ‘Hey Levi?’” he scoffs, but you note the slightly lighter tone he’s using. “Pathetic.”

You muster up the strength to giggle.

“It’s good to hear your voice too,” you relax, smiling as you close your eyes. A warm palm slips into your own.

“Stay awake, will you, brat?”

Your smile grows.

“Don’t worry. You can’t give rid of me that easily,” you reassure, gently brushing the back of his hand with your thumb. “But I do need a little sleep. It’s been a hard night.”

"It has," he echoes.

"Levi?"

He hums in response, indicating for you to continue.

“Will you stay with me until I wake up?” It’s easier to relax when you’re by my side.

“Sure.”

Content with his answer, you succumb to your exhaustion and let out a small sigh as you allow your body to rest. A shadow looms over you, and you feel soft lips press against your own. Muffled words are hummed into your ear, but you can’t make out the words.

You do, however, smile, and say:

“I love you, Levi.”
